Bums wanted! Be part of the art with Spencer Tunick’s Story Bridge installation

Are you ready to take your kit off in the name of art? New York-based contemporary artist, Spencer Tunick is seeking volunteers for a monumental installation across Brisbane’s Story Bridge as part of Melt Festival’s city-wide celebration of queer art and culture. Interested in getting involved? Read on to find out more…

The project forms a sequel of sorts to Spencer’s 2023 Brisbane-based work, TIDE – part of Melt Festival’s 2023 program – which saw around 150 participants pose nude along the Brisbane River’s waterline. This year’s installation will close off the Story Bridge on Sunday October 27, as it is filled with thousands of live nude figures in celebration of diversity, equality, inclusion and Brisbane’s vibrant LGBTQIA+ community and allies.

Spencer has been documenting the live nude figure in public since 1992. He’s organised more than 100 installations with dozens, hundreds and even thousands of participants, documenting these stripped but stunning art events on camera. Spencer cannot make his art without the generosity of his volunteers, who show up to dress down together. If you’re tantalised by the thought of being part of this snapshot of Brisbane laid bare, you too can be a part of the communal celebration. All those selected to participate in the 2024 MELT installation will receive a print of the final artwork as a gift of appreciation from Brisbane Powerhouse – a limited-edition work of beauty and a pretty good conversation starter.

Registration for volunteers closes midnight Sunday October 20. Register your interest here before it’s too late!
