Sophie Ellis-Bextor leads a dancefloor-murdering MELT Festival line-up

During lockdown, an unlikely – and very bedazzled – hero emerged. We’re talking about none other than songstress Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who along with her extremely cute brood, entertained us with 2000s bops during her livestreamed kitchen disco series. We fell in love with the talented noughties pop princess all over again, so it’s safe to say we’re pretty darn excited to learn that she’s leading 2022’s MELT Festival line-up. Here’s what else you can expect to groove to at the glitter-soaked extravaganza that’s returning from November 10–27 with global headliners …

Returning this November, MELT Festival will see Brisbane Powerhouse transform into a playground of international entertainment and eye-popping activations. Curated by award-winning writer, director and producer Daniel Evans, the 18-day LGBTIQA+ celebration has confirmed a clutch of dancefloor legends will make an appearance at this year’s event. The party will get started with hip-hop artist and Beyoncé collaborator Big Freedia and Murder on the Dancefloor singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Big Freedia will kick off the festival on Thursday November 10 in a Queensland exclusive performance, supported by Aussie dancehall sister-duo Kinder.

Then it’s time to let music get the best of you as kitchen-disco dynamo Sophie Ellis-Bextor hits the stage on Friday November 11 for an unforgettable performance with London DJ Jodie Harsh. MELT’s mammoth music line-up will be made even better when rappers Jesswar and JessB join forces for a beat-filled bash on Friday November 18. On top of the magical music roster, punters can expect to see Brisbane Powerhouse transform into a wonderland of neon chapels, dance halls, pleasuredomes and secret cinemas – but you’ll have to wait and see what action awaits when the full MELT program is announced on Tuesday August 30.

You can grab tickets for Big Freedia, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Jesswar + JessB now via the Brisbane Powerhouse website
