Fitness made fun and free at South Bank
Let’s be honest – the idea of getting out of bed to do 100 squats is hardly enticing, no matter how tight your buns of steel might get. We all have trouble staying in shape when the cooler months keep us indoors, but it’s a whole lot easier when the exercise is actually fun and also free. South Bank’s program of low-impact classes can keep the belly at bay and make you feel great well into the change of seasons.
From February 22 to April 30, the Medibank Feel Good Program takes over South Bank’s Little Stanley Street Lawns and Boat Pool, offering a range of mixed-energy fitness classes that are equal parts fun and healthy. Energy: Every Monday from 5:45–6:30 pm you can burn fat and get fast results at this seriously high-energy and calorie-consuming workout.
Yoga Beats: This isn’t your average yoga. On Tuesdays from 6:30–7:15 am, Yoga Beats blends traditional yoga sequences with fitness, all set to fun modern music. Yoga mats are limited, so you might want to bring your own!
Pilates: Improve your alignment, posture and flexibility on Tuesdays from 5:45–6:30 pm, through sequences of resistance and strength exercises. Again, mats are limited!
Bubacise: New mums can strengthen and tone from 9:30–10:15 am on Wednesdays, and bring along bub to introduce them to movement and motor skills development.
Yoga: Each Wednesday from 5:45–6:30 pm you can focus your mind and improve your strength and flexibility with a yoga class on the lawns. Don’t forget your mat!
Zumba: Kick your Thursday up a notch from 5:45–6:30 pm with a dance party-style Zumba class. Just in time to learn some simple but impressive dance moves for the weekend.
Aqua Aerobics: Head to the Boat Pool on Saturday mornings from 9:30–10:15 am for this water-based, low-impact class to improve muscle strength and flexibility.
