Maureen O'Hara at Brisbane Powerhouse

Maureen O’Hara unwinds at Judith Wright Centre

The life of a movie star is a particularly public one, but few people know what goes on behind the scenes. In Maureen O’Hara Spends a Quiet Night At Home, Brisbane performer Belinda Locke gives audiences a glimpse into the home life of the 1940s starlet.

With a soundtrack embracing big band music, jazz and French electro-pop, the one-woman show sees Maureen O’Hara wind down with a drink and a bath after a glamorous social event. In her home, Maureen’s true nature and deepest anxieties are exposed. The show, which was inspired by photographer Peter Stackpole’s 1946 photograph by the same name, explores the ways in which this famously social person might have behaved behind closed doors.

Maureen O’Hara Spends a Quiet Night At Home was first performed to audiences at Crack Theatre Festival, as a part of the This Is Not Art Festival in Newcastle last year. Catch the show from June 19–29 at the Judith Wright Centre.
