It’s not often that the story of a young professional footy player encounters a world of sequins, feathers and drag, but that’s exactly what occurs in Managing Carmen. Queensland Theatre Company’s latest production, the show explores the world of hot-shot young player Brent Lyall. He seems to have it all – as a professional AFL player he has achieved two Brownlow medals, as well as being perfectly settled with a bombshell girlfriend. What Brent hides however is a fetish for dressing up in women’s clothes. It’s this sensational plotline that takes this dark comedy far beyond the typical sports story.
