Ramp up the camp and cabaret at Liza’s Back! (is Broken)

Let’s just take a moment to appreciate that gender bending is pure entertainment – anyone’s who’s watched RuPaul’s Drag Race can attest to this. Seasoned cabaret queen and Australian drag royalty Trevor Ashley has been using this art form to make people laugh for decades now, so you know he’s got the formula for a winning show locked down. His latest creation Liza’s Back! (is Broken) comes to QPAC from January 17–22 to pay homage to the showbiz greats – sequins mandatory.

Coming fresh off the back of smash-hit seasons across the rest of Australia, Europe and on London’s West End, Liza’s Back! (is Broken) is Trevor’s latest foray into theatrics. After making people laugh to the point of (possibly) loss of bladder control with shows Fat Swan, I’m Every Woman and Liza (on an E), Trevor continues to push the envelope. This show has been co-written by long-time collaborator Phil Scott, with Max Lambert taking the reins as musical arranger and supervisor. As the name suggests, Trevor has immersed himself in the world of legendary all-rounder Liza Minnelli to create a show of hilarious hypotheticals in regards to the star’s career.

With all the glitz, glamour and production values worthy of Judy Garland’s offspring, Trevor (starring as Liza herself, naturally), explores the what-ifs of Minnelli’s 60-odd years in the entertainment industry. Trevor puts his money where his mouth is by tackling some of the biggest musical theatre hits – from showbiz heavyweights such as Julie Andrews, Barbra Streisand and Elaine Paige, nobody is safe from being totally Minelli-fied. Liza’s Back! (is Broken) is a true homage to the titular star, with fabulous costumes and impeccable vocal stylings to boot.

You can nab tickets to Liza’s Back! (is Broken) through QPAC right now, so bust out the fake eyelashes and don your best lace-front wig – this queen is the real deal.
