Lifeline Bookfest

Rummage for beautiful bargains at Lifeline Bookfest

Bookworms at the ready, the Lifeline Bookfest returns to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre at South Brisbane this weekend. Rearing its dusty, full-to-the-brim head each January and June, Brisbane Bookfest allows you to restock your dwindling bedside table book pile with the heartfelt knowledge of helping the community at the same time.

Major lit nerds can be seen racing in as the heavy doors creak open, heading straight for the Classics table to scour for hardback editions of Dickens, Bronte, Austen and Wilde – we suspect F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby might be a popular choice this year.

Divided into three sections spanning more than 20 categories, discover used textbooks, biographies, foreign language and fiction, as well as a large range of movies on DVD and VHS, magazines, vinyl and cassettes. A bi-annual event worth saving your pennies for, this celebration of secondhand tomes not only extends your literature collection but supports locals in need.

Money raised at Bookfest goes towards Lifeline’s 24 hour crisis line, and directly supports suicide prevention and awareness programs in Brisbane. Running Saturday June 9 to Tuesday June 12, make a list of the books you’ve never invested in but long for dearly, pack a few green bags and prepare for a long day rummaging amongst the trestle tables.
