Traverse heavy metal’s underground with Last Days Here

Through the veil of TV appearances and snapshots of interviews, it can be hard to separate the myth of the musician from reality. It’s thanks to the musical documentary that the curtain can be lifted away from the cleverly crafted image and provide fans with a glimpse into the individual. Heavy metal fans now have their chance to engage with character Bobby Liebling with a free screening of Last Days Here.

The 2011 documentary will be screened in conjunction with Antidote Films at Brisbane Powerhouse. It may well be like an early Christmas (or birthday) present for lovers of the heavy metal genre, as the creation takes a look at the rollercoaster life of underground musical icon Bobby Liebling. For 36 years, Bobby led a life as a cult-rock legend as lead singer of Pentagram. After a tumultuous band life, subsequent break-ups, ruined record deals, self-sacrifice and self-destruction, Bobby finds himself living in his parents’ basement. This all changes, however, when he is finally discovered by the heavy metal underground scene and given a second chance. The flick journeys with Bobby through his life’s highs, lows and his greatest opposition – his addiction to heavy drugs. Settle in for a two-hour expedition through heavy metal history, with one of its most entertaining characters at the free event.
