Italy’s iconic La Scala Ballet makes its Australian debut at these Brisbane-exclusive performances

When it comes to the ballet, Europe is known for producing some of the most beautiful troupes in the world. One such prestigious company is Italy’s Teatro alla Scala Ballet – or the La Scala Ballet for short. The skill and expertise of these dancers is almost unfathomable, which is why this next piece of news is particularly exciting – La Scala is coming to Australia for the very first time, performing a string of shows at QPAC that are exclusive to Brisbane only. Oh, and the company is bringing its 110-person strong staff with it! Mark November 7–18 in your diary and pick a date, because this is one show you won’t want to miss.

Appearing as part of QPAC’s celebrated International Series, La Scala Ballet will be performing two iconic productions from within the classical realm – Rudolf Nureyev’s festive Don Quixote and the ever-evocative Giselle. Gypsy dances, fandangos, matadors and windmills abound in the distinctly Spanish classic Don Quixote, which will be performed in the first part of La Scala’s strictly limited season. Giselle follows with its truly haunting (albeit beautiful) imagery, sweeping audiences from a sunny village to a tragic kingdom in the blink of an eye.

La Scala’s magic touch doesn’t end on the stage – the company’s arrival will also be complemented by a whole host of events and activities including conversations, masterclasses, community participation projects, exhibitions, access to dress rehearsals and more. The La Scala + program is a peek behind the curtain of one of the world’s most significant ballet companies, and also seeks to explore historical and contemporary Italian culture from a broader perspective – think fashion, design, food and film. To take a look at the full roster of events, be sure to check the program here.

Want to witness an Australian first? You can pick up tickets to La Scala Ballet’s performances through QPAC right now, so don’t delay.
