Singing, dancing and a dose of drama – La Boite Theatre announces its spellbinding ACT 2

Following a successful season opening with ACT 1 – which featured two hit productions – La Boite Theatre is pulling out all of the stops for a thrilling ACT 2. Kicking off this month and running until August, the exciting second act of the theatre’s 2021 season features two diverse main stage productions, a fresh-faced music series and a brand-spanking-new program of HWY events. Order some bubbles, take your seat and settle in for a night at the theatre.

The curtain on La Boite Theatre’s ACT 2 is being raised in typical dramatic fashion – with lots of theatrics, plenty of music and just the right dose of dancing that’s set to transfix audiences. One of the first cabs off the rank is The Time Is Now (May 24 to June 5), a thrilling new work that offers a glimpse into a future imagined by ten socially engaged young Queensland artists, all of which have diverse cultures, backgrounds and political views. Turning up the drama will be CAESAR (July 17 to August 7), a female spin on the iconic William Shakespeare tragedy that is sure to impress audiences.

La Boite’s annual development program HWY will continue to amaze during ACT 2 with an exhilarating selection of play readings, workshops and critical conversations. Play readings include You’re Beautiful and Perfect from award-winning playwright Steve Pirie and Garbage Patch by Maddie Nixon, while special events include the Indigenous-led stand-up show Blackout Comedy by powerhouse Steph Tisdell, and a showing of YOKE by La Boite Artists in Residence, Aha Ensemble. So you can get your fill of song and dance, ACT 2 will also be launching Music In The Round, a series featuring emerging Queensland artists that will be showcasing culturally diverse music and performance acts.
