A 700-sqm mirror maze is coming to Brisbane so it’s time to take a good, hard look

“Mirror, mirror, on the wall — who’s the fairest of them all?”. This is exactly what you can ponder at Kaleidoscope, the 700sqm mirror maze that’s coming to Brisbane from Friday August 12. A mesmerising symphony of light, sound and childlike wonder, this is one pop-up art experience that needs to be seen to be believed.

Brisbane Powerhouse is set to come alive with colour, creativity and culture later this year as part of its new outdoor events program. The first exciting activation set to make waves at the precinct is installation artist Keith Courtney’s mesmerising mirror maze Kaleidoscope, an immersive artwork of glass, steel, mirrors and moving prisms that visitors can traverse through. The eye-popping installation is taking the traditional funfair attraction, a house of mirrors, and turning it on its head. A sparkling crystal palace by day, Kaleidoscope uses a colour field of ever-changing light to both treat and disorientate the senses once the sun sets.

Arriving in Brisbane from Arts Centre Melbourne, this all-ages optical illusion-esque artwork is courtesy of artistic mastermind Keith Courtney. Keith is famous for being one of the folks behind acclaimed installation pieces House of Mirrors and 1000 Doors, as well as The Crosses, a series of inverted crucifixes perched across the Hobart waterfront for MONA’s 2018 Dark Mofo.

Kaleidoscope will take residence on the riverside Performance Lawn at Brisbane Powerhouse from August 12 to October 3, with up to 25 sessions daily. Tickets are $16.50 per person and can be purchased on the Brisbane Powerhouse website
