Save the date – Kalbar Sunflower Festival is returning with a field of one-million blooms

Mark your calendars, flower fans – the annual Kalbar Sunflower Festival is returning in 2024 to showcase its glorious one-million sunflowers (yes, one million!) alongside a huge program of fun-filled events. Last year’s festival sold out within 24 hours – so gather your gang and get ready to make a beeline to the Scenic Rim from April 19–21.

When life deals you a drought, grow sunflowers and they will come. That’s what farmers Jenny and Russell Jenner did in 2021 when they were struggling to keep their crops alive. A lightbulb moment from Russell saw them begin planting sunflowers – and the rest is history. The Jenner’s farm in Kalbar is now home to a huge annual celebration of flowers and family-friendly fun, with visitors from far and wide making a beeline for the Scenic Rim to witness their sunflower crop in all its glory.

The 2024 iteration of the Kalbar Sunflower Festival will be bigger and better than ever. For just three days in April, the blooming sunflower fields will create a golden-hued canvas for fun program of activities and events, which is set to include photography sessions in the fields, yoga, sound-healing meditation, art classes, a daring sunflower maze, gift stalls, kids entertainment including a fairy garden, as well as helicopter rides for a birds-eye view of the one-million sunflowers. Plus, you can expect plenty of photo-worthy moments along the way.

For the first time this year, the festival will introduce a sensory garden, a fairy garden of mini sunflowers ensuring the blooms are respective of eye height for those in wheelchairs. There will also be 180m of wheelchair tracks through the sunflower fields for added accessibility.

Ticket sales go live in the last week of March. Be sure to follow Kalbar Sunflower Festival on Instagram for the date drop so you can set an alarm or three.
