Celebrate the life and work of Jon Molvig at QAGOMA

Described as colourful, outspoken and rebellious, Jon Molvig was an artist with an extraordinary vision. His work dominated the city’s art scene in the late 1960s and inspired a generation of artists. Now, almost 50 years after his passing, QAGOMA has unveiled its latest exhibition paying tribute to the prolific expressionist painter.

Be equal parts intrigued and inspired as you meander you way around Jon Molvig: Maverick. His personal reputation for being unpredictable and wild is reflected in this interesting new exhibit that features his early, vibrant works drawing on European influences and brings his stylistic eclecticism to the fore.

Jon Molvig: Maverick will be showcased at QAG Gallery 4 from September 14 to February 2 however if you’re looking for some additional commentary, join curator Michael Hawker as he shares his insights into the eclectic collection at the Curator’s Tour on September 14 at 11:30 am. Stick around from 1:30 pm for the first in a four-part talk series that will see key theorists of Jon reflect on his art, life and contribution to the Brisbane art scene. The first In-Focus talk features independent writer and curator Samantha Littley as she explores the way women are represented in Molvig’s work. Take a peek at the entire program of events here.
