This July, beloved Fortitude Valley dining and shopping strip James St is throwing one heck of a culinary party – yep, the James St Food + Wine Trail is back! From July 27–30, Fortitude Valley’s fashionable promenade will be the setting for a four-day foodie festival showcasing edible offerings from some of Brisbane’s best restaurants and bars. Expect limited-edition dishes, multi-course extravaganzas, exclusive tastings and, of course, James St’s annual street-wide Market Day. Here’s what’s in store …

James St is firing up the ovens in anticipation for the James St Food + Wine Trail, which will see more than 7500-sqm of James St laneways and gardens from McLachlan to Arthur Street give way to alfresco fine dining, live entertainment and kids activities. The fun kicks off on Thursday July 27 with a Lebanese pizza party hosted by the Gerard’s Bar crew, and the launch of not one, but two new products from a couple of James St favourites. You’ll be able to tickle your taste buds with a scoop of limited-edition TAKIN’ THE MIKKI from Gelato Messina or wrap your mitts around a funfetti-cake sandwich from Jocelyn’s Provisions. On Friday, soak up some tunes and delicious tipples at Sounds of Sol at LOS, feast on flavourful fare at a dinner at The Green, try delectable dishes at Cantinho’s souvla cook up, and sate your sweet tooth with another visit to Gelato Messina to try the TRAMONTANA limited-edition flavour (there are five limited-edition flavours to try in total across the event). On Saturday July 29, The Calile Hotel will take things to new heights at its exclusive rooftop garden event, while ESSA will wet whistles at its champagne lunch.

On Sunday July 30, James St will shut down between Arthur Street and McLachlan Street for the crown-jewel event – Market Day. From 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, a collection of James St’s most loved operators will come together for one mammoth and very flavoursome feast. Newcomers like The Nixon RoomSunshine and the soon-to-open Carmen Tequileria will join stalwarts sAme sAmeHellenika, ESSA, Cru Bar and Mosconi in a line-up of 33 market stalls offering more than 125 opportunities to mix and match top-notch cuisine and cocktails. Despite undergoing refurbishment, Gerard’s Bistro will also make an appearance for Market Day, and if that’s not enough reason to attend, we don’t know what is. Sunday will also see Harveys Bar & Bistro host a salivation-worthy seafood lunch, while The Nixon Room will be the place to be for Sunday Social Club.
