Discover the stories behind the music in Intimate Letters
A deeply moving concert will see the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Bell Shakespeare portray the life-changing experiences that inspired two world-renowned pieces of music.
While many listeners may attach their own interpretations and analyses to their most treasured pieces of music, it’s rare that we have the opportunity to learn the real meanings intended by the creators. In a special collaboration between the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Bell Shakespeare, Australian audiences will be invited to discover the deeply personal stories that inspired Leoš Janácek’s Intimate Letters and Bedrich Smetana’s From My Life in the ingenious concert, Intimate Letters.
For Janácek, it was the 700-plus letters penned between the married composer in his 60s and a married woman in her 20s that formed the context for his legendary piece of work, while Smetana’s autobiographical composition traces the optimism and promise of childhood through to the despair he felt as he descended into deafness.
The season will kick off at QPAC in Brisbane on Monday August 18 before travelling through Newcastle, Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. Secure your seat online.
