Discover the intersections between art and literature this Sunday
Pablo Picasso once said, ‘Painting is just another way of keeping a diary’. Both methods of storytelling – one with a brush in hand, the other with a pen – painting and writing are undeniably linked. It is this intersection, between the fields of art and literature that will be discussed at the Museum of Brisbane this weekend.
Part of the David Malouf and friends exhibition, the discussion will bring together local names in literature, art and academia to explore the shared influences of these realms. The panel will see poet and academic at the University of Queensland Bronwyn Lea joined by Gillian Whitlock, also of UQ, whose research focuses on biographical and autobiographical writing. Suzy Wilson of Riverbend Books and Teahouse in Bulimba, art dealer Bruce Heiser and the museum’s director Peter Denham will round out the panel, with the talk to be facilitated by ABC Radio National’s Ian Townsend.
Creating a shared narrative of Brisbane’s stories and our cultural identity, the David Malouf and friends exhibition brings together the work of local celebrated author David Malouf with five contemporary artists who have called Brisbane home. Challenge the usual reaches of your mind this Sunday June 22 when this discussion runs from 2:00–3:00 pm at the Museum of Brisbane. While this is a free event, you will need to register to attend.
