Holy Shiitake! The event series helping hospitality businesses get off the ground

Let’s not sugar-coat it – starting your own business from scratch in any industry is damn hard work, but hospitality can be particularly intimidating. Even if you have a killer idea and loads of ambition, that won’t exactly impress the bank when it’s time to front up the cash to get started. If you’ve got big foodie dreams but are lacking in the financials to make it a reality, listen up – visionary hospitality funders Silver Chef and beloved incubator Wandering Cooks have teamed up to bring budding restaurateurs a very sweet opportunity indeed.

The aptly named Holy Shiitake event series is a tasty trio of opportunities that are worthy of salivating over. In short, ten hopeful hospitality start-ups will get a shot at pitching their business idea to a panel of industry expert judges, with three talented winners taking home a share in $50,000 worth of prizes. Before this golden opportunity takes place, these hopeful business moguls will be trained in the art of pitching by some of the best minds in the business – because as anyone who’s seen Shark Tank would know, you’ve got to be able to sell it, baby!

So how do you get to the finish line? The first session of Holy Shiitake on Tuesday June 12 is a taste of what to expect, providing people in the early stages of their hospo journey as well as business veterans alike the chance to mix, mingle and learn how to pitch like a pro. A panel of industry experts made up of Sarah Miller from Kiss the Berry, Abbey Cameron from Caveman Kitchen and Joao Rocha from Lisboa Caffe will impart their wisdom while attendees can sip, snack and soak up the advice. This event also opens the exclusive registration window to attend the next pitch workshop on Tuesday June 19, which is then followed by the main showdown on Tuesday June 26.

Ready to make it happen or just keen to watch the kitchen excitement unfold? Both hopefuls and spectators can grab tickets to the Holy Shiitake event series through Eventbrite – initial pitch night tickets are here and finals night tickets are here.
