Beekeeping
Talented local artisans will be scattered throughout the Have A Go! Festival demonstrating their crafts, and the Queensland Beekeeping Association of Toowoomba is one of them. If you’re like us and are concerned about the plight of Australian bees, you might be interested in learning about keeping bees at home. Demonstrations will run each day from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm. Be sure to check out the other Have A Go! demonstrations – watch a log transform into a piece of furniture, discover how corsets are made (and try a few on yourself) and find out how to cut an opal.

Millinery
Fancy a fascinator for races? You can learn to make your own at the mini millinery workshop with Michelle Jensen. Running over both Saturday and Sunday at various times, you’ll need to book to make sure you don’t miss out. If you want to add another personal touch to your outfit, you can also enrol in jewellery making to make a pair of delicate drop earrings.

Blacksmithing
It’s okay – you don’t need a horse to reap the benefits of blacksmithing skills. Master blacksmith and farrier Terry Drennan will teach you the basics of the metalwork in this mini workshop, assisting you to craft your own small candle cup. Workshops will run at various times across the weekend, and bookings are essential. Once you learn the basics you might like to expand your skill set to make your own tools or knives.

Crocheting 
Lusting after Kendall Jenner’s crochet bikini but can’t find exactly what you want? Why not whip one up yourself? If your crochet skills aren’t up to scratch, join in on a crochet workshop to learn the basics with Peekay Plumeier, starting by creating a flower or heart. No bookings are required – crocheting is one of the many Step Up and Have A Go! activities running all weekend, which also include leather plaiting, silk painting, lacemaking and paper crafting.

Have A Taste!
The weekend wouldn’t be complete without the delectable fare of the Toowoomba and Lockyer Valley region. Have A Go! Festival continues into the evening of Saturday February 20 with Have A Taste!, which will see acclaimed chefs, local famers and food producers come together for this open-air event. Have A Taste! will be a twilight version of the renowned Toowoomba Farmers Market and will be hosted by guest chef Stefano de Pieri, who will interview local producers to uncover the paddock-to-plate stories of the region. Local chef Ash Martin and team will be cooking up tasting plates, stallholders will showcase their produce for sale, and you can sate your appetite at gourmet food stalls and the on-site licensed bar while listening to the soothing sounds of Signy.
