Gudirr Gudirr combines storytelling and dance

In a limited series of dynamic performances, Gudirr Gudirr brings political and personal stories of indigenous Australians to Brisbane Powerhouse audiences.

Having just returned from a season in London, Gudirr Gudirr exhibits the talents of dancer and choreographer Dalisa Pigram, Belgian choreographer Koen Augustijnen and visual artist Vernon Ah Kee. The performance’s name comes from the Yawuru word for the wader bird – an animal that sirens a warning sound when the tides change.

Running from February 20–22, Gudirr Gudirr is an emotive dance piece that confronts issues faced by indigenous Australians today. Blending the movements of animals and martial arts with video projections, spoken word and fishing nets, the production will also see Dalisa Pigram perform dances that incorporate her experiences with Malay. Gudirr Gudirr comes to Brisbane Powerhouse’s Visy Theatre as part of WTF 2014.
