TWE GOMA Talks Harvest

GOMA Talks presents food for thought

The thought-provoking discussion program GOMA Talks returns to the gallery this week in conjunction with fascinating food exhibition Harvest.

Filling your brain, and no doubt whetting your appetite, the GOMA Talks series for Harvest will delve into contemporary ideas surrounding the lifeblood that is food. Kicking off this Thursday July 3, the first free event will focus on the topic of Food Futures. Hosted by Antony Funnell, presenter of ABC Radio National’s Future Tense, the panel will discuss food security and the future of food as society re-engages with the ingredients before them and their origins, contemplating sustainability and seasonality.

With the GOMA Restaurant offering up a unique menu matched to the exhibition for certain events, patrons to GOMA Talks can opt to enhance their evening with the Food For Thought package. Guests can enjoy a drink on arrival at the Audi GOMA Bar from 5:15 pm, while Brisbane musical darlings Patience Hodgson and John Patterson of The Grates provide spin tunes in a live DJ set. Those partaking in the Food For Thought package will also tuck in to a new dish each fortnight – a gluten-free risotto of fresh legumes, rabbit ham and parmesan crumble is on the menu for Food Futures. The following events on Thursday July 17 and 31, will focus on the topics of Food, Art and Life (matched with a vegetarian Warhol tomato soup served with native spice toast soldiers) and Politics of Food (with gluten-free Southern-style fried organic free-range chicken with Khrenovina sauce to nibble) respectively. The package also includes a private tour of Harvest with exhibition curator Ellie Buttrose following the talk, with each fortnight’s walk through tailored to that evening’s topic. Those who haven’t yet nabbed themselves a package for tonight can still enjoy a Harvest-inspired light meal in the bar before the talk.
