The coast is getting glitzy – check out world premieres and red-carpet events at the Gold Coast Film Festival 2021
After a year-long break, the film fanatics among us are being treated to a blockbuster festival of cinematic celebration thanks to the Gold Coast Film Festival. With both world and Australian movie premieres being part of the extravaganza, there’ll be more than 100 films on offer – so get ready to break out the popcorn.
Running from April 14–25, the Gold Coast Film Festival will be hitting the coast with four world-first premieres, six Australian premieres, nine Queensland premieres and two exclusive preview screenings (that’s … quite a bit to pack into 12 days). One of the best parts? It doesn’t matter what part of the coast you call your ‘hood – screenings will be held at multiple locations so viewers don’t miss out. If you’re one of those people who loves to be in before the rest of the crowd, make sure you catch the special preview screenings of J.J. Winlove’s June Again starring Noni Hazelhurst, Claudia Karvan and Stephen Curry, and The United States vs. Billie Holiday directed by Oscar winner Lee Daniels on the closing night of the festival.
Kicking off proceedings will be the Sundance-selected documentary, Valerie Taylor: Playing with Sharks, which will be lighting up the silver screen at HOTA, Birch Carroll & Coyle Coolangatta and Event Cinemas Coomera. The action continues with starry pop-up events filling the schedule, including the SIPFest Short Film Festival screening at Burleigh Brewing Co. (a match made in heaven, if you ask us), and the brand-new Films at the Footy: Titans Cinema event that will treat movie-goers to a screening of Gladiator at Cbus Super Stadium. Special guests will be participating in Q&As throughout the festival, with other industry events such as the Screen Industry Gala Awards and the new Pitch in Paradise initiative kicking off for during the festival. The Gold Coast Film Festival features an array of free and ticketed events, to view the full program head here.
