Move to the beat at Get What You Want: Music Cinema
Music is a truly universal language that transcends barriers and has the power to transform. Get What You Want: Music Cinema is an amazing program screening from September 2 to October 2 at GOMA’s Australian Cinematheque this spring in conjunction with Brisbane Festival set to celebrate and explore music cinema in all its glorious diversity.
The month-long event sees more than 25 films covering all genres of music hit the screens – from hip-hop to punk rock or house to heavy metal, it’s all there and ready to be enjoyed. Get What You Want is more than just a visual spectacular, with the choices curated to allow audiences to witness the motivations of some of the most revered stars of modern music. It’s an inside look into what makes them tick, as well as the fascinating backstories behind the music. In addition to this, the program provides insights into the creative and social dynamics that operate across musical subcultures.
Get What You Want opens on Friday September 2 with a fabulous Madonna double-bill and follows with a truly outstanding range of documentaries and movies. Feature films throughout the festival include the Coen Brothers’ folk-fantastic Inside Llewyn Davis, punk classic Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains and Don Cheadle’s directorial debut and star turn as influential jazz man Miles Davis in Miles Ahead. The iconic Purple Rain will also be screened as a tribute to the recently departed legend, Prince. This is just a small taste of the rarities, underground documentaries and big-name biopics on offer – to check out the full program and purchase tickets, visit GOMA’s website.
