Gaybies shines the spotlight on gay marriage and rainbow families

Originally developed by Melbourne Theatre Company, Gaybies heads to Brisbane as part of the 2016 MELT festival.

Showing at Brisbane Powerhouse’s Visy Theatre from February 3–6, Gaybies is a powerful, heart-warming piece of theatre based on the real-life accounts of children raised in rainbow families. Written by Dean Bryant and directed by Kris Stewart (Brisbane Powerhouse Artistic Director), Gaybies is brought to life by a cast of talented local actors and community members who tell the deeply personal stories of people aged 4 to forty who have grown up with same-sex parents, surrogate mums, donor dads, co-parents and guardians. The show’s honest content forms the perfect response to anyone who has ever asked the question, “But what about the children?”

If the overwhelming response (and standing ovations) from Melbourne audiences is anything to go by, Brisbane theatre-goers can expect to find themselves in raptures of laughter, and be moved by the show’s powerful narrative and charming authenticity. Gaybies is for everyone who cares about our greatest asset: children. If you are heading to the Brisbane Powerhouse to take in anything at MELT 2016, be sure to mark down a few spots for eats and drinks. Try St Baxter on Brunswick Street, HONOR on the other side of New Farm Park or – if you don’t want to go far – Watt Restaurant.
