IMA presents emerging artists in Fresh Cut
In an exhibition aimed at presenting the cream of Queensland’s local emerging artists, the Institute of Modern Art (IMA) presents Fresh Cut 2013: Part One.
Selecting only a few artists from such a deep talent pool must be a tricky task, but IMA director Robert Leonard and artist and QUT lecturer Grant Stevens have handpicked four of Queensland’s most creative young folk to exhibit in Fresh Cut. The work of Joseph Breikers, Caitlin Franzmann, Anita Holtsclaw and Ruch McConchie will be showcased over two instalments as part of the exhibition.
Part one of Fresh Cut will explore cultural conventions via the works of Joseph and Caitlin. Joseph’s work has been inspired by François Rabelais, Jorge Luis Borges, death metal and toilet humour, and Caitlin’s sound pieces are concerned with the little appreciated concepts of slowing down and reflecting. The exhibition’s two instalments will run at IMA from Saturday August 3 to Saturday September 21.
