Eat to the beat – where to find food-truck feasts and free concerts in Brisbane

When it comes to finding the way to our hearts, food and music are two things that will instantly boost our endorphins. Our city is full of free outdoor fun that combines live tunes and delicious eats – you just need to know where to look. We’ve picked out a few must-do events from Brisbane City Council’s jam-packed LIVE Guide that are coming up soon – so if you like delicious mobile food vendors and amazing live (and free) music, read on.

Food Trucks and Movie Music – Sunday March 31 at Brisbane Botanic Gardens
Let’s be honest – an iconic soundtrack can sometimes overshadow a movie or TV series. This awesome free event showcases the Brisbane Regional Youth Jazz Ensemble playing hits from both the big and small screen – think Game of Thrones, Mamma Mia, Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park and loads more. Plus, you can get your snack on with goodies from food trucks like The Bun Mobile, Dolce Ice Creamery and then some.

A Pommie Night Out – Tuesday April 2 at Brisbane City Hall
If you’re into slapstick and sing-alongs, this will be right up your alley. A Pommie Night Out showcases the comedic stylings of pint-sized funnywoman Bubble paired with David Lee-Jay, as the duo delight audiences with a nostalgic concert featuring classic gags and plenty of musical moments. This is a great one to take your nan or pop along too – but you’ll definitely be laughing along with them.

At the Newmarket – Sunday April 14 at Newmarket Bowls Club
Two words for you here – dog friendly. A chill Sunday afternoon at the Newmarket Bowls Club is just what the doctor ordered, so gather your friends and fam to enjoy the atmosphere and ease into the week ahead. You can enjoy mouth-watering food-truck fare, entertainment and kids activities all soundtracked by live music – BYO furry friends.

Star Wars and Planets – Sunday May 4 at Brisbane Botanic Gardens

May the Fourth is a revered date in many pop-culture calendars, thanks to its adoption worldwide as Star Wars day. What better way to celebrate one of cinema’s greatest franchises than to hang out in the lush surrounds of the Brisbane Botanic Gardens listening to 70 musicians playing all manner of galactic music? For total immersion, we encourage going all out and dressing as your favourite Star Wars character for the occasion.

Estampa – Tuesday May 21 at Brisbane City Hall
Want to add a bit of spice to your Tuesday? City dwellers (or those lucky enough to have the day off) should make tracks to check out Estampa at Brisbane City Hall. Performing a free midday concert, this quartet of talented musicians will take you on a sonic journey with their folky tunes – you’ll be tapping your feet and dreaming of wandering down Parisian laneways within the first few bars.

Who knew you could have this much fun without spending a cent? To keep an eye out for other awesome activities that are kind on the wallet, head to Brisbane City Council’s LIVE Guide.
