Five drool-worthy experiences to enjoy during Good Food Month
In Brisbane the entire month of July is dedicated to food. Why food isn’t celebrated year round is beyond us, but thankfully Good Food Month offers a mind-boggling selection of foodie events to take part in. We’ve picked five favourites that are well worth investigating.
Gauge X Ides
Get set for an evening like no other when Cormac Bradfield and Phil Marchant from Brisbane’s Gauge team up with Peter Gunn and Zach Furst from IDES in Melbourne. The two restaurants will be creating an eight-course offering with matched beverages for an intimate chef’s table event. Only limited tickets are left, with two sittings on July 25 and 26.
David Thompson’s Nahm Pop Up
David Thompson is an Australian-born chef that has made his name as a kitchen wizard with his work in Asia’s number one restaurant Nahm. As one of the world’s best chefs in the realm of Thai cuisine, David’s return to Australia for Brisbane’s Good Food Month is a huge deal. You can sample David’s acclaimed cooking on July 19 and 20 as Nahm pops up at LONgTIME in Fortitude Valley.
Young Chef’s Dinner
The Young Chef’s Dinner is always a popular highlight of the Good Food Month calendar, as it showcases the talents of some of the state’s rising culinary stars. On Wednesday July 13, chef’s from restaurants such as Esquire, Montrachet and The Wolfe will be offering a huge dinner with matched wine, tea and coffee at Eagle Street’s ARIA.
Momofuku Seiōbo Dinner with Paul Carmichael
Momofuku is one of the biggest names in the international food industry. Celebrity chef David Chang has expanded Momofuku into a global powerhouse, building upon each success with more innovative cooking styles. Momofuku Seiōbo is Momofuku’s first restaurant outside of New York City, and Good Food Month is bringing head chef Paul Carmichael to GOMA’s restaurant on Wednesday July 13 to create a six-course menu based on the theme of fire and ice.
Night Noodle Markets
This one is almost a no brainer – the Night Noodle Markets are without a doubt one of the crown jewels in the Good Food Month crown. South Bank’s cultural forecourt is transformed into a mecca for Asian street food, as vendors cram in and vie for your tastebuds with a range of delicious bites. In addition to the regular range of food vendors, the Night Noodle Markets will also be home to a rooftop bar from Yalumba, special dishes from Fat Noodle head chef Luke Nguyen and a pop-up from Harajuku Gyoza offering its new Raindrop Cake.
