Eyes open – Mr Black takes over The Gresham for a one-off night of coffee cocktail magic
Considering how killer Australia’s daytime caffeine scene is, it seems like a damn shame that our favourite bars don’t have access to a speedy, convenient and top-tier option to play with when it comes to coffee-based cocktails … until now. The legends from Mr Black have distilled our country’s coffee culture into an evening alternative, creating a coffee liqueur that will have you seeing stars. Curious? You’re in luck! Mr Black is taking over The Gresham Bar for one night only to show you just what it can do – with a very special guest in tow.
Aptly named Eyes Open, this one-off affair is a free event hosted by Mr Black to (ahem) open our eyes to the world of how coffee can be used in cocktails. We’re not just talking about your beloved espresso martinis here – the night will feature a special menu of creative sips that showcase Mr Black liqueur in ways that you might not have imagined. The full cocktail menu is under wraps but there are a couple of treats you can expect to see – standouts include the Espresso MarTIKI (a tropical twist on a time-honoured fave) and the Outlaw (the classic Scofflaw given a citrus and coffee makeover).
If you had any more doubt about heading along to Eyes Open, here’s a little piece of information that might just convince you – Mr Black’s global ambassador and all-around mixology wizard Martin Hudak will be in attendance. The globetrotting gent has helmed spots like The Savoy Hotel’s legendary American Bar in London, and has spent a significant portion of his career bridging the gap between the coffee and spirits communities. If there was any one person you can trust to whip up some seriously impressive caffeine-based concoctions, it’s Martin.
