TWE Ekka

Roll on in to the Ekka this weekend

The familiar smell of dagwood dogs in the air, that extra glow in the Brisbane sky, a noticeable influx of perfectly primped animals and a sudden craving for strawberry ice-cream can only mean one thing – it’s Ekka time again.

Since its inception in 1876, the Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) has been attracting visitors from far and wide. Showcasing the best of Queensland life and achievements, the Ekka continues to be a staple event in the calendar of most Brisbane dwellers. While for some the Ekka might conjure up nostalgic memories of strawberry sundaes, dagwood dogs and showbags, this year’s show promises to be bigger and better than ever, stretched out over two full weekends and offering a variety of produce, culture and entertainment.

In addition to time-honoured favourites, the Ekka will showcasing the best of Queensland’s local produce at the Gourmet Harvest hub, serving up restaurant-quality cuisine to those looking to treat their tastebuds. Other foodies offerings include the Royal Queensland Steakhouse Restaurant, the Woolworths Fresh Food Pavilion, and the Garden Platform – an interactive garden with live demonstrations on garden-to-kitchen cooking. The Ekka starts tomorrow, August 8 and runs until August 17 at the Brisbane Showgrounds.
