Chooky Dancers brings Djuki Mala to Judith Wright Centre

This performance group may have gained recognition for its reimagining of traditional Greek dancing on YouTube, but Chooky Dancers has now become renowned for its emotive and innovative live dance performances.

Combining traditional culture with contemporary performance, the Chooky Dancers performance ensemble will bring its energetic new production Djuki Mala to Brisbane audiences this weekend. The group, travelling from Elcho Island – of the Galiwin’ku community – will share its mishmash of acrobatics, physical language, dance and humour with Judith Wright Centre audiences over three days.

The Djuki Mala performances will see the Chooky Dancers joined on stage by the dance students of the Aboriginal Centre for the Performing Arts in a special curtain-raiser performance. Ticketing information is available via the Judith Wright Centre website. From Elcho Island to Fortitude Valley, the unique stylings of this dance troupe will entertain viewers of all age groups.
