Brisbane’s Design Montage website relaunches

After nourishing the local arts community with features, interviews and news over the past two-and-a-half years, Brisbane graphic designer Jenica Smith has relaunched the Design Montage website.

Cast your memory back to that first inner explosion of culture when something just ‘clicked’ and your mind-cogs whirred into action. Music that wasn’t your parents’ Kenny G record? Art that made you feel something? Books that spoke to you, not at you? You may still be in the midst of that personal renaissance, but those in need of a little artistic inspiration need look no further than Brisbane creative hub, Design Montage.

While the blog may have grown from humble beginnings as a master’s assignment back in 2011, the site has since mushroomed to encompass interviews, short films, art news and events information. It invites readers to press an ear to the door and listen in on founder Jenica Smith’s conversations with bright sparks in every category of the arts – from graphic design, typography and animation, to illustration, filmmaking and photography. Jenica has nurtured some of Queensland’s best artists by showcasing their work and encouraging unexpected yet fruitful collaborations, like those seen in the limited-edition screen print series that helped launch the new site last week. While the bones of the original blog have remained, the new site also boasts an online shop and its own film series, which will feed followers with new behind-the-scenes releases every fortnight until Christmas. Jump online and let your cursor feast on this vital cultural resource.
