DeepBlue brings string rock to Brisbane Powerhouse
Any preconceptions you have of a string orchestra will be shattered from the moment you take a seat at DeepBlue’s latest show Who Are You. Void of stiff seating arrangements and sheet music, a DeepBlue show instead fuses circus antics like stilt walking and rope jumping with intricate, fast-paced melodies.
This string-heavy, big-beat orchestra is the product of 16 musicians, all of whom boast flawless stage skills. In Who Are You, DeepBlue originals find a place next to Radiohead, Corelli, Cat Stevens and Gotye classics, serving up a dynamic, rock ‘n’ roll take on a traditional string set. Audiences can expect energetic dance and movement alongside orchestral sounds, as DeepBlue careens across the stage all the while playing violins, cellos and violas.
Exploring life’s rites of passage from birth to first love, Who Are You delves into the music and moments that shape our lives. Audiences can even contribute their own dreams, memories or request songs via DeepBlue’s web app. Who Are You also coincides with the release of this Southeast Queensland-based group’s latest album.
