One of QPAC’s signature events is widely recognised as one of the Brisbane’s preeminent showcases of Indigenous Australian talent. Encompassing live performances, film screenings, conversation seminars, workshops and other free events, Clancestry provides an opportunity to learn about clan groups across Australia and the world. By connecting with and witnessing the art and cultural practices of the First Nations Peoples over a weeklong celebration, QPAC hopes to continue the traditions of the Indigenous community well into the future.

QPAC’s Cremorne Theatre will be hosting Clancestry’s Conversation Series, curated by QUT’s Dr Chelsea Bond. The series will engage audiences with stories from invited panellists, who will also participate in discussions surrounding identity, authenticity, activism, the role of media and what sovereignty means as a theory and political movement. Clancestry’s Black Screen Film element will take these issues further, showcasing independent features and short films from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander creatives. Saturday December 5 will see the Playhouse Green turned into a hub of community activity with performances from choirs, dance groups, musicians and poets.
