The Rocky Horror Show loosens ties at QPAC

Steady yourselves, innocuous Brisbane audiences. In its 40th anniversary production, Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show is coming to QPAC and bringing its collection of devious characters along for some justly provocative enactments. In the title character of Frank N Furter’s creation, Rocky, Brendan Irving will step out in the infamous gold hotpants – and be joined by the likes of Riff Raff, Magenta and Columbia on the Lyric Theatre’s stage. The show will go on until Sunday February 9, or until it is deemed too lascivious to continue. more

Judith Prior gives an old pussycat a reboot

What’s New Pussycat is a brand-new adventure for Puss in Boots. Judith Prior’s reworking of Puss in Boots is a world away from the original, purposefully moral tale. This funny story takes the cunning cat and his master far away from their humble beginnings in a mill and on to an adventure across magical and musical lands. The biggest change to the telling of this familiar fable is in the musical numbers that invigorate the storytelling. Puss, his master, and the quirky characters they come across sing hit songs from the 1980s through to today – such as ‘Single Ladies’ and ‘Workin’ for the Man’ – as they adventure through a surprising thrift shop and the dangerous desert while fighting vicious trolls and malicious witches.   more
