GOMA introduces The World Turns

GOMA is one of Brisbane’s most renowned cultural icons, thanks to its consistent rotation of lavish exhibitions from all corners of the earth. The gallery is extending its art collection into the surrounding garden with the installation of major public sculpture The World Turns by Michael Parekowhai on the riverbank. The bronze sculpture stands at five metres high and was commissioned last year to celebrate the fifth birthday of GOMA and the 20th of the Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art. Keeping watch over the neighbouring river, The World Turns is certainly a conversation starter, consisting of three huge interrelated bronze casts. These include a bookend of an acrobatic elephant, a kuril water rat and a chair in which the viewer can sit and contemplate. @ QAGOMA, From November 14   more

Rickshaw Madam rolls into Graydon Gallery

Chaotic streets of bustling traffic, overflowing marketplaces and colourful communities form the inspiration board that is Asia. Brisbane artist Amanda Krantz has embraced the exoticism of this geographical region (particularly India and Thailand) in her latest exhibition, Rickshaw Madam. Showing at Graydon Gallery, the Brisbane-based painter’s creations each showcase her familiar style of painting – incorporating heady smears of vibrant colour and lively techniques on canvas. It’s this exciting style, which sees paint poured and flicked in all directions, that helps to bring the flora and fauna to life in Amanda’s works. @ Graydon Gallery, November 16–25 more

Share thanks with the Grateful 100 project

It’s surely good manners to say your pleases and thank-yous when required, but how often do we truly mean them? The Grateful 100 is a local initiative that aims to make the masses a little more aware of the blessings in everyday life.  The concept is simple – take one photo a day for 100 days of something you are grateful for. Whatever form the image takes is up to you, whether it’s a favourite sibling, a sunset, or a jar of Nutella.
