An exhibition showcasing British and Australian jewellery is coming to Queensland College of Art at South Bank from Thursday December 12. Transplantation is a travelling exhibition featuring 12 contemporary jewellery artists. Using a diverse range of resources, from precious materials to everyday objects, the artists explore the cultural and artistic ‘transplantations’ that occur between the UK and Australia. Each artwork will represent the artist’s unique interpretations of the topic, stemming from personal experiences. The exhibition will run until Saturday February 1. Polishing off a successful year at Metro Arts, CROSS-STITCH: Thunderbox exhibits from December 6–7. The two-night immersive exhibition, curated by Britt Guy, is site-specific to Metro Arts, and will feature a collection of interactive and live artworks and performances. Experience art in its many forms as created by the participating artists, including Zane Trow, Robert Millett, Lenine Bourke, M’ck Mckeague, Matthew Day, Andrew Tuttle, Edwina Lunn, Gerwyn Davies, Nathan Stoneham and Thomas Quirk. Each year curated exhibition The GAS showcases the works of Queensland College of Art’s graduate students and the winners of The Survey Co. Art Prize. Audiences can come along and admire the diverse collection of artworks spanning paintings, jewellery, contemporary Australian indigenous artworks, and photography. The GAS explores the inspired ideas and methods of the many artists involved in the exhibition. Christine Schindler’s unique photographic collection will be on display for a single evening at Vision Gallery on Saturday November 30. The strength and endurance of Mongolia’s contortionists will be revealed in the exhibition, sharing a rare insight into the fascinating culture of Mongolia. Minds will be stretched as the incredible abilities of the subjects’ flexible acrobatic bodies are viewed in Christine’s images. Held at the Absoe Warehouse in West End, the event will begin at 5:00 pm and is set to include an acrobatic performance and live music. An exhibition of drawings, paintings, etchings and sculptures by Archer Davies will open on Wednesday November 20, with a launch event on Friday November 22. West End’s The Hold Artspace will display the works resulting from Archer’s residency in Philadelphia. Using everything from three-dimensional computer models and pop culture imagery to more traditional observational artworks, Archer’s new exhibition Altogether Elsewhere responds to contemporary culture and the human relationships within it. BMX bandits, retro beach cruisers, middle-aged men in lycra (MAMILs) and fixie pixies can all share the two wheels they have in common at the first Pedal exhibition in West End. The idea for Pedal was born when two friends met up during a warm Copenhagen summer and became decidedly determined to see more riding of bicycles in Brisbane. Upon their return home, Mara and Ciara decided to combine their love of cycling, photography, art and design in an exhibition. Launching on the evening of Friday November 15, Pedal will kick off with a leisurely group ride from the city to the Mollison Street venue, where crowds will soak up cycle-inspired photography and film, and tuck in to food from Street Food Australia and Hellhound Hotdogs, as well as organic beer and wine. more
Six pairs of Queensland’s most renowned visual artists will unite their powers for Museum of Brisbane’s newest exhibition, Silver. Each coupling sees a leading photographer collaborate with an artisan jeweller, together exploring the consistencies and differences in their art forms. From this exploration, the duos will present new artworks inspired by Brisbane. Employing the use of silver throughout the creative process, the artists will look at the historical significance of silver in art and reflect on the stories that link Brisbane’s past and present. The pairings will see Michael Cook and Ari Athans, Ray Cook and Matt Dwyer, Marian Drew and Barbara Heath, Andrea Higgins and Madeleine Brown, Deb Mansfield and Sheridan Kennedy, and Carl Warner and Nadine Cameron come together. The exhibition will begin on Friday November 15 and run until April 27. more
From November 13–30, The Changing Standards of Dialogue will furnish Metro Arts with a unique collection of sculptural, object and image-based artworks. The immersive installation will challenge the standard conventions of dialogue in a collaborative venture between Brisbane-based artists Marcel Daniels and Daniel Herberg. The two artists explore concepts and complexities that make up contemporary conversation, as well as the grey areas created by cross-cultural discourses. more

Zenith 150 is an exhibition presenting the works of Southbank Institute of Technology’s talented visual art students, and is the product of two years of hard work and concentrated deliberation. On Tuesday November 12 from 6:00 pm, the exhibition will open its doors to the public, inviting you to support this local, emerging group of artists who are graduating in December 2013. The evening will also feature guest speakers, snacks and drinks, and all 34 artists’ works will be available for purchase.
