It’s beginning to sound a lot like Christmas – Carols in The Common is coming to West Village

Door-to-door Christmas carolling is a tradition beloved by our friends in the Northern Hemisphere. If a snow-lined street filled with groups of merry carollers doesn’t warm you with Christmas cheer, we don’t know what will. Unfortunately, Brisbane’s balmy festive-season weather doesn’t usually encourage streets filled with a chorus of Christmas tunes. This is why outdoor carol performances are so magical – they’re held in the cool of night and there’s no walking involved or knocking on stranger’s doors. On the evening of Wednesday December 4, Opera Queensland will host Carols in The Common at West Village for all of your summer-suitable carolling needs.

The Christmas spirit will fill the air along West End’s Boundary Street when locals congregate at West Village for Carols in The Common. With the iconic Peter’s Ice Cream factory as their backdrop, the stars of Opera Queensland will grace the stage singing a mix of classic carols and more modern tunes (we have our fingers crossed for some Mariah Carey). The gates of the family-friendly event will be open from 5:30 pm with the concert set to start at 6:30 pm.

Your host for the evening will be beloved baritone and Opera Queensland artist Jason Barry-Smith. Joining Jason and his Opera Queensland co-stars will be Camerata – Queensland’s chamber orchestra – providing the score for a magical evening. Audience participation is on the cards, with a rousing sing-along medley on the program. To close out the night, a very special finale is in store involving the whole cast. All tickets include a drink on arrival and if you’re feeling particularly celebratory, you can purchase a Deluxe Double Ticket that includes two tickets, two glasses of bubbly and a gourmet cheese box for two. To join in the festivities, get your tickets from Eventbrite.
