Live music is back, baby – The Triffid joins forces with some of Queensland’s biggest musical talent for Cabin Fever Festival

After the cancellation of pretty much every live gig pencilled in for early- to mid-2020, we were starting to lose hope that live music was on the cards at all for this year. Thankfully, for both keen concert-goers and the local music industry, restrictions are gradually lifting and live gigs are making a slow but sure comeback. Setting the wheels in motion is iconic Newstead venue The Triffid, which has just announced Cabin Fever Festival – a month-long celebration of homegrown Queensland talent in The Triffid Garden. Kicking off on Friday July 10, Cabin Fever Festival will feature a huge roster of talent including the likes of Aussie artists Bernard Fanning, Dami Im, Troy Cassar-Daley and many more.

Reviving Brisbane’s live-music scene with a shot of adrenaline straight into its veins, Cabin Fever Festival will see The Triffid host a month-long program of intimate, cabaret-style seated gigs in the venue’s beer garden. And when we say intimate, we mean it – due to COVID Safe regulations, the venue will seat less than 100 people per concert. Tickets for each gig will cover a single table for your group, with tables as small as two available, or if you’re keen to rally up a larger crowd of mates, you can even score a table of ten. To complement the bountiful talent set to make sounds during the festival, The Triffid’s production and staging are undergoing a slight makeover to ensure this one-off experience is one you’ll remember for a very long time.

So, who’s taking the stage? Brisbane icon and former Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning will share his musical talent with Triffid patrons on Thursday August 13 (sorry folks, this show sold out almost immediately), one of Australian country music’s finest singer-songwriters Troy Cassar-Daley will serenade audiences on Thursday August 6 and Friday August 7, and multi-talented The X Factor winner and Eurovision contestant Dami Im will show off her sweet vocals on Friday July 24. Joining the jam-packed line-up is Jeff Martin (The Tea Party), Hatchie, Sweater Curse, Lagerstein and Shag Rock, who will also be performing ticketed events. If you’re low on dosh and keen to spend your pocket change at the bar, you can hit up one of the many free events on during the month with artists including Suicide Country Hour, Hope D and Bridget Brandolini, Presidential Blues, Joel Myles and Wolfe Peterson, Melody Graves and The Hokum Redemption, Tiarne and The Letter Elle, Pete Cullen and The Hurt, OJ Menjel, and Willow.

Are you eager to treat your ears to some of our state’s best musical talent whilst supporting the local music industry? Hop on over to The Triffid website to see the full line-up or to nab yourself some tickets, head here. Be quick – numbers are strictly limited!
