Moving out – your last chance to check out the Bromley Room at West Village
All good things must come to an end, but this adage is particularly poignant when the thing ending is something as magical as the Bromley Room. The West Village art studio set up to display the amazing work of celebrated artist David Bromley has enjoyed a jam-packed visitor schedule since opening in April last year, but the time has come for the Bromley Room to go into hibernation. Before the doors close for good to make way for building renovations, we are getting one last chance to take a look through the arts and events space that holds some of David’s most exciting work to date. Mark Saturday March 24 and Sunday March 25 in your diary – it’s time to say goodbye to the Bromley Room.
The Bromley Room has been making waves in Brisbane’s cultural landscape since opening in April 2017. Archibald Prize finalist David Bromley and his wife Yuge were commissioned to create an exhibition for the arts and event space in the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory in West Village as part of David’s mammoth 12-month stretch as artist-in-residence at the space. David’s incredible paintings and sculptures transformed the space over the course of a year, but the Bromley Room was never meant to be forever – this ephemeral activation is coming to a close so that much-needed renovations can take place to preserve the Peters Ice Cream Factory.
During the year that it has been open, the Bromley Room has played host not only to David’s work but also a huge range of events. The studio has included some of the Blackman by Bromley series – original works painted in collaboration with famed Australian artist Charles Blackman and his family – and works by Brisbane street artist Lucks, who has been mentored by David. A total of 29 unique activations including dinners, fashion shows, corporate events, artist-in-residence weekends and wedding receptions have been held in its short lifetime, raising more than $17,000 for some awesome Australian charities. The space may be closing, but this isn’t the end of David Bromley’s presence at West Village – stay tuned for the next chapter in the partnership, which will involve a permanent home for Bromley & Co.
The Bromley Room at West Village will be open to the public for the last time this weekend of Saturday March 24 and Sunday March 25, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
