The British Film Festival returns to Brisbane for 2015

Get prepared for another British invasion. Some of the best modern and classic films in British cinema will be showcased at Palace Cinemas from October 28 to November 18.

There is something undeniably charming about British Cinema, more subdued than the glitz and glamour of Hollywood blockbusters but no less gripping and enthralling. Some of the world’s best films of the past year have emerged from Great Britain, and now a good portion of those will be screened for three weeks at Palace Centro and Palace Barracks cinemas. The 2015 program boasts a range of quirky comedies, heart wrenching romances and intensely dramatic films.

The 2015 opening night film will be Paolo Sorrentino’s Youth, a stylish and thought-provoking film starring Michael Caine, Harvey Keitel, Rachel Weisz, Paul Dano and Jane Fonda. Closing out the festivities is The Man Who Knew Infinity, a retelling of the life of Srinivasa Ramanujan – a brilliant mathematical genius. The film stars Jeremy Irons, Dev Patel, Stephen Fry and Toby Jones. In addition to the host of contemporary flicks, the British Film Festival will be screening a curated selection of 10 films which celebrate romance in each decade from 1900 to 1990. Head to the British Film Festival website for a full list of films, session times and ticket prices.

Looking for a post-movie bite or tipple? The Stumble Guide boasts hundreds of suggestions – along James Street we suggest At Sixes and Sevens, Farrier, Cru Bar + Cellar or a cheeky CocoWhip from the Pineapple Express Superfood Box. Nearby Palace Barracks in Petrie Terrace are fine establishments such as Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall, Statler & Waldorf and Brewski.
