The round-up: Brisbane's best trivia nights

The round-up: Brisbane’s best trivia nights

If you’ve ever found yourself sitting on the couch watching The Chase and thought the questions weren’t that hard, you might want to consider joining a trivia team. The high-stakes world of pub trivia is one of the most entertaining ways to spend a weeknight, with just about every night of the week boasting a trivia night somewhere. Not only is trivia sociable, entertaining and good for the brain it is also a relatively inexpensive way to spend an evening. Simply pick a spot from our comprehensive list and then all you’ll need to do is come up with a cool team name! Might we suggest Quizteama Aguilera, Risky Quizness or Trivia Newton John?

Sometimes you need something to look forward to in order to help ease you into the working week. Trivia is the perfect remedy for the Monday blues, so book you and your team in for the legendary Harry’s Trivia at The Brunswick Hotel in New Farm. Out on the west side of town, The Jindalee Hotel kicks the week off with some head-scratching fun.

Keep up your momentum with another night of brain-scratching fun. Harry’s Trivia is on at three locations across town, including the Story Bridge Hotel in Kangaroo Point, Morrison Hotel in Woolloongabba and The Brunswick Hotel in New Farm. One of the savviest trivia groups in Brisbane is the Man vs. Bear crew. Known for putting on some of the most popular one-off themed trivia nights in town, the team also host regular quiz nights every week. On Tuesday, we suggest heading to The Red Room at UQ or The Flying Cock for some bonafide hilarity. Beach House Bar and Grill at Chermside and Garden City, The Gap Tavern, the Hamilton Hotel and the Stones Corner Hotel also host trivia every Tuesday evening, while West End’s Archive Beer Boutique has long been a place for some cheeky Tuesday teamwork. Teams of all sizes are welcome, with a gold coin donation allowing a chance to win a weekly jackpot. Quiz Meisters is another collective of trivia troubadours that take over several pubs around Brisbane each week. Catch them on Tuesdays at The Glen in Eight Mile Plains, Tide Wine Bar in Manly, the Newmarket Hotel, Alfred & Constance, the Alderley Arms Hotel and The Brat Cave in Woolloongabba.

The end of hump day is worth celebrating, which is why Wednesday has plenty of trivia nights to look forward to. The ever-reliable Harry’s Trivia has five spots to try, including the Norman Park Bowls Club, New Farm Bowls, Wests Rugby Club in Toowong, Copperface Jacks in West End and the Lord Stanley Hotel in East Brisbane. Man vs. Bear puts on some stellar pop-culture trivia at Netherwold in The Valley and at Shady Palms in Stones Corner. The Paddo Tavern pairs its general trivia with chicken parmies (a master stroke of genius) every Wednesday, while Collective Kitchen and Bar offers cheap pizzas and other specials all evening alongside free trivia. Quiz Meisters also operate on Wednesdays with trivia nights taking place at Oxford 152, Jimmy Rods Shave Saloon Bar & Kitchen and at Saccharomyces Beer Cafe, which likes to get boastful with its trivia offering by hosting ‘The World’s Least Shit Pub Trivia’ (their words).

The week might be cooling down, but trivia nights across town are still keeping things heated. Man vs Bear operate two trivia nights in the valley on Thursdays, one at The Brightside and one at Finn McCool’s. Harry’s Trivia is also keeping things interesting well into the week, with teams encouraged to sign up at Gallopers Sports Club in Ascot, Bellbowrie Tavern and the Norman Park Bowls Club for Thursday trivia shenanigans. The fun doesn’t stop there – Quiz Meisters keep the good times rolling with a host of nights at the Holland Park Hotel, the Albion Hotel, Statler & Waldorf, Mick O’Malley’s Irish Pub, The Wickham and All Inn Brewing Co.

A few spots around Brisbane host monthly trivia nights that are well worth booking in for ahead of time. Ben’s Burgers hosts a trivia night once a month with jackpot prizes, no limit on team sizes and a magnetic host in the form of comedian Dani Cabs. Saint Lucy Caffe e Cucina also brings people together on the last Wednesday of every month for trivia, with ticket prices including a drink and a focaccia to share. Finally, if you consider yourself a music buff, The Triffid hosts monthly trivia nights on all things song. Winners can score themselves passes to any gig at The Triffid, which is a prize well worth turning up for.
