The round-up: get quizzical at Brisbane’s best trivia nights
If you’ve ever found yourself sitting on the couch watching The Chase and thought the questions weren’t that hard, you might want to consider joining a trivia team. The high-stakes world of pub trivia is one of the most entertaining ways to spend a weeknight, with just about every night of the week boasting a trivia night somewhere. Not only is trivia sociable, entertaining and good for the brain, it is also a relatively inexpensive way to spend an evening. Simply pick a location from our comprehensive list of Brisbane’s best trivia spots and then all you’ll need to do is come up with a cool team name! Might we suggest Quizteama Aguilera, Risky Quizness or Trivia Newton John?
Sometimes you need something to look forward to in order to help ease you into the working week. Trivia is the perfect remedy for the Monday blues, so book you and your team in for the legendary Harry’s Trivia at The Brunswick Hotel in New Farm. Out on the west side of town, The Jindalee Hotel kicks the week off with some head-scratching fun courtesy of the legends at Trivia Mill. The Funky Bunch also starts the week with some head-scratching fun at Buffalo Bar, while newcomers Trivia Mill set up shop at Brew Master’s in Grange, Jindalee Tavern, Murrumba Downs Tavern and at the Gem Hotel in Alberton on Monday nights for weekly trivia. Quiz Meisters is another collective of trivia troubadours that take over several pubs around Brisbane each week – Mondays serve up fun in the form of the Royal Exchange Hotel in Toowong, Catchment Brewing Co. in West End, Alfred and Constance in Fortitude Valley and the Kedron Park Hotel. Back in The Valley, Big Head Trivia serves up some crackin’ interactive triv at the Osbourne Hotel.
Keep up your momentum with another night of brain-scratching fun. Harry’s Trivia is on at several locations across town, including the Story Bridge Hotel in Kangaroo Point, The Brunswick Hotel in New Farm and Hotel Carrington in The Valley. One of the savviest trivia groups in Brisbane is the Man vs. Bear crew. Known for putting on some of the most popular one-off themed trivia nights in town, the team also host regular quiz nights every week – head to Little Big House or Pig’n’Whistle Riverside on Tuesdays for some bona fide hilarity. Funky Bunch Trivia backs it up with triv at The Lounge in Nundah and Birdees on Tuesday evenings. The Trivia Mill team takes over the Newmarket Hotel, The Lord Alfred, Orion Hotel in Springfield, The Gap Tavern, Finnigan’s Chin in Keperra, Stones Corner Hotel, Archive Beer Boutique, Beach House Bar and Grill at Chermside, Garden City and North Lakes, Captain Cook Hotel in Kippa-Ring, Brighton Hotel, Cannon Hill Tavern and Milton Common for some cheeky Tuesday teamwork as well. You can also test your wits at Beerhaus with a regular Tuesday trivia offering, or hit up The Valley’s mega music mecca The Sound Garden for some real brain teasers.
The end of hump day is worth celebrating, which is why Wednesday has plenty of trivia nights to look forward to. The week might be cooling down, but trivia nights across town are still keeping things heated. The Coorparoo RSL, Aussie Nash Hotel and Victoria Park each hold a ripper trivia on Thursdays that will have you feeling truly quizzical. Harry’s Trivia is also keeping things interesting well into the week, with teams encouraged to sign up at Gallopers Sports Club in Ascot, Prince of Wales Hotel in Nundah, Bellbowrie Tavern the ANFE Italian Club in Newstead and the Norman Park Bowls Club for trivia shenanigans. The fun doesn’t stop there – Quiz Meisters keep the good times rolling with a host of nights at the Holland Park Hotel, Ballistic Beer in both Springfield and West End, The Wickham and All Inn Brewing Co. On Thursdays, Trivia Mill pops up at Kettle & Tin in Paddington, the Woolloongabba Hotel, the Full Moon Hotel in Sandgate and the Gumdale Tavern. Man vs. Bear are spotting up at Three Brews Bar in Holland Park, Tippler’s Tap on James Street, Fritzenberger on Caxton Street and Beirne Lane in Fortitude Valley. Finally, Bender’s Bar has also launched its own free trivia night, complete with burger specials!
A few spots around Brisbane host monthly trivia nights that are well worth booking in for ahead of time. Saint Lucy Caffe e Cucina also brings people together on the last Wednesday of every month for trivia, with ticket prices including a drink and a focaccia to share. Finally, if you consider yourself a music buff, The Triffid hosts monthly trivia nights on all things song called Not On Your Rider. Winners can score themselves passes to any gig at The Triffid, which is a prize well worth turning up for.
Please note: the trivia masters of Brisbane like to keep us on our toes – we keep this list as current as possible, but sometimes regular nights get shifted around or (gasp!) cancelled. If you’re not a regular, we’d recommend checking up on your preferred venue’s Facebook or website to make sure things are running smoothly.
