Fright for the night with Brisbane’s best Halloween events and parties

As citizens of the southern hemisphere, it can sometimes feel like we miss out on the spooky spirit of Halloween. That’s totally bogus! Who doesn’t love an excuse to don a costume and get freaky? Here at The Weekend Edition we are all about fun and we’ll take it any way we can. From wear-your-brown-pants VR experiences to the craziest dress-ups, we’ve shined a torch on all of the best Halloween parties and events happening in Brisbane this year.

Netherworld’s Skeletti Western and Halloween Party: It makes sense that the source of some of Brisbane’s best pop-culture events would host some kick-ass Halloween tomfoolery. Netherworld has been getting into the spirit all October long but things are about to peak – there’s a Skeletti Western event (yep, cowboy skeletons) and then an all-out Halloween Party on the 31st. If you’re looking to go all out, this is the place to do it.

Halloween Movie Marathon at Metro Arts
: If you’re a sucker for classic horror films, Brisbane’s king of cult cinema has got your back this Halloween. He’s curated a spook-tastic triple bill of titles that are bound to get your heart racing – The Haunting, Suspiria and Friday the 13th. It all kicks off at 2:30 pm, which is perfect for those craving a sensible bedtime post-spooking.

Halloween Hysteria at The Valley Drive-In: Fancy a bit of heavy music with your All Hallows Eve celebrations? The Valley Drive-In is the place to be, hosting its famous Halloween Hysteria festival once more. Spread over two nights, punters are encouraged to dress up and get down in the pit to the likes of Dead Letter Circus, Cosmic Psychos, Nekromantix and more.

Brisbane Fright Market
: Thinking less trick and more treat? The Brisbane Fright Market is perfect for all of your family-friendly Halloween needs. Little ones and adults alike will find plenty to see and do over the next two Fridays when the Brisbane Night Market gets freaky – think Trick or Treat Trails, a haunted house, competitions for the best-dressed child and adult, devilishly good cocktails and live bands.

Fluffy Halloween Ball: When it comes to extreme dress-ups and killer performances, one need only look to Fluffy for the key ingredients for a next-level Halloween bash. Our city’s home of camp, queer and drag will come alive for a night of spooky revelry, so if you’re keen to hit the dancefloor surrounded by fabulous people in fabulous costumes, don’t miss this one.

Creepy Tiki Halloween Block Party at Jungle: Any Halloween party that involves tropical drinks gets a big fat tick from us. West End’s very own tiki paradise, Jungle, is hosting a scarily good party to get into the spooky spirit – you can expect wicked cocktails (obviously), frightening bites by Eat the Thing, plus groovy tunes spinning all night long.

Beerhaüs Halloween Party: If you want to kick it old-school (with the potential to get rewarded for dressing up), Beerhaüs is the one for you. This lively King Street spot is putting on a party sponsored by Kraken Rum, with live tunes, giveaways and plenty of throwback games (like apple bobbing) to take part in.

VR Fright Night at FreeSpace: Real talk – it can be hard to get into the spooky spirit if your venue isn’t really immersive enough. What better way to really get freaky than to transplant yourself into a scary-as-hell VR situation? FreeSpace has a range of truly terrifying virtual reality experiences on offer – plus pizza and soft drink for when you’re done.

80s Karaoke and Spooky Songs at The End: The title of this one pretty much says it all – and what’s not to love about a bit of spookyoke? You can opt for some 80s tunes if you’re not vibing with the horror themes, but frankly if someone doesn’t get up and sing ‘The Monster Mash’ it will be a hugely wasted opportunity.

Trick or Treat with Eat Street: The only thing scary about Eat Street on a normal day is how damn good all of the food is – so the gang is going all out to turn the Hamilton hotspot into a freaky themed wonderland. Gorge on amazing treats while you try to avoid the spooks, ghouls, witches and bats.
