Explore abodes unknown at Brisbane Open House

If you’ve ever spotted a beautiful or interesting building while trekking through The City and pondered its origin story, soon you’ll be able to find out. Brisbane Open House is back with a jam-packed program from August 27–28! Divulging secrets behind some of The City’s most alluring spaces, Brisbane Open House will feature some of Brisbane’s most iconic venues alongside breathtaking and newly built beauties. Always wanted the keys to The City? This is your chance!

Since 2010, Brisbane Open House has opened the doors to some of the most iconic structures in the city. After having to pivot in 2020 and not being able to go ahead in 2021, it’s a welcome return for our favourite annual architecture-focused festival. This year, the program is offering up behind-the-scenes access to more than forty buildings across Brisbane – from heritage-listed eye-catchers to sleek new innovations, it’s a visual feast. Visitors will be able to explore venues such as The Tivoli, Government House, St John’s Cathedral, Princess Theatre, Fort Lytton, Roma Street Fire Station and even Wivenhoe Dam.

This year also sees some exciting new activations kick off including the introduction of Villages of Brisbane, held on Sunday August 21 in and around the bayside suburbs of Sandgate and Shorncliffe. Attendees will be treated to a program full of picture-perfect buildings (including Sacred Heart Church, Morven House, St. Patrick’s College, Sandgate Museum, Sandgate Town Hall and more), guided walking tours and a brain-tingling speaker series.

Back in The City, curious wanderers can explore the Iconic Precinct program, which will cover Fish Lane Arts Precinct and Aria Property Group’s The Standard. For those stepping out to see the sights, the Open House photography competition is back for another year, offering shutterbugs the chance to get snap happy. So you can get around in style, Brisbane Open House has once again partnered with Queensland Omnibus & Coach Society, which will be providing a free hop-on-hop-off service between key event locations in their vintage buses.
