Hold the keys to the city at Brisbane Open House

Sometimes we’re so focused on getting to our destination that we forget to stop and look around. If you’ve ever strolled past a beautiful or interesting building and wondered how it came to be, this is the weekend to find out – Brisbane Open House takes over the city for October 8–9 to show visitors and residents alike the secrets behind the spaces.

Since 2010, Brisbane Open House has been operating as a free public festival that celebrates Brisbane’s unique built environment, opening the doors of some of the most iconic structures in the city that are often not so easily accessible. This year, the program is offering up behind-the-scenes access to a whopping 101 buildings across Brisbane – from stunning churches to sleek new innovations, it’s a visual feast. Fittingly held in conjunction with World Architecture Day, Open House facilitates both guided and self-paced tours designed to encourage exploration and engagement with the spaces on show.

As well as the tours, urban explorers can partake in concerts, storytelling and even live comedy taking place in various locations all weekend – to check out what’s on you can visit the Open House program. For those stepping out to see the sights, there is an awesome Open House photography competition happening – it’s the perfect chance to get snap happy! By taking a closer look at the architecture, engineering and history behind the city, you may find yourself seeing things a little differently…
