Celebrate food and culture at the Brisbane Mexican Festival

As a nation known for its great combination of food and festivities, Mexico celebrates its independence from Spain on September 15. This fascinating culture of native legends, artistic expression, live music and delicious food will descend upon West End this Saturday September 12 in the form of a vibrant street festival.

Following in the footsteps of successful festivals in Brisbane such as the Total Brisbane French Festival and the Paniyiri Greek Festival, the Brisbane Mexican Festival aims to highlight the traditions that are the pride of Mexican people and create a context for the broader community to connect with this lively culture. Taking over the Boundary Street Markets including The Motor Room and the Red Bay Silverbullet, the Brisbane Mexican Festival will see folkloric dancers, lucha libre (Mexican wrestling) and dancing classes entertain the masses. A Mexican costume contest for kids and adults, as well as a salsa band and kids piñata breaking every hour until 5:00 pm will keep the whole family entertained.

A lively group of local Mexican expats have been the organisers of the official Mexican Independence Day Party in Brisbane over the past nine years and now bring this extended version of festivities to our streets.
