A mass vaccination centre is opening at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre
Following the conclusion of Southeast Queensland’s eight-day lockdown yesterday, this morning, Monday August 9, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced that Queensland will open its largest mass vaccination hub in just two days’ time.
Set to open at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre this Wednesday August 11, Queensland’s first mass vaccination centre is set to ramp up the Pfizer vaccination rate. At this morning’s press conference, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk revealed that the centre will be administering both first and second doses of Pfizer, as well as AstraZeneca for people getting their second jab. Health minister Yvette D’Ath said that with Queensland’s current stock of the Pfizer vaccine, the centre will start administering approximately 1000–1500 doses a day. With extra Pfizer doses expected to arrive later this week, the vaccination centre will be able to administer up to 3000 doses per day by the upcoming weekend.
People on the Queensland Health list will be prioritised to get the Pfizer vaccine (this list now includes Queensland school staff and childcare workers), but people aged between 16 and 59 are being asked to register on the Queensland Health website. The mass vaccination hub will be open seven days a week (so weekend slots will be available), with free parking available for anyone who gets vaccinated at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
