Lick, bite and slurp up a treat storm at the first Brisbane Ice Cream Festival
Remember the first time you heard a Mr. Whippy truck rolling down your street? The tinny sounds of ‘Greensleeves’ heralded the arrival of the ultimate indulgence – ice-cream. Aside from the nostalgia factor, not much can beat the feeling of wrapping your lips around a deliciously frosty treat on a warm summer’s day. Well, all of our Christmases have come at once with the announcement of the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival – on Saturday March 11, the historic Peters Ice Cream Factory at West Village will be brimming with frozen delicacies as far as the eye can see. Stock up on Lacteeze, because this is going to be huge.
The Brisbane Ice Cream Festival is the first of its kind in our city, bringing together a range of local artisan treat vendors for one sweet day of revelry. The name is something of a catchall for frozen treats of many varieties – punters can eat their way through gelato, popsicles, filled doughnuts and pretty much anything else you can think of that’s icy and delicious. Expect to see goods from Minus32, Queen of Pops, Boss Bites, Mister Fitz and La Macelleria as well as a pop-up shop from renowned dessert innovators Gelato Messina. It has also been confirmed that Red Hook is cooking up an ice-cream burger (!!!) that is exclusive to the festival.
Not a fan of ice-cream per se? Festival organisers have lined up a killer range of alternatives for vegan peeps and those who don’t play nice with lactose. Cocowhip and Frozen Sunshine are among the names that will be holding it down with an amazing range of cruelty-free and organic treats. As if the festival wasn’t awesome enough, the gang from Alfred & Constance will be manning a pop-up bar doling out boozy frozen delights. There will also be live music to keep the vibes higher than your inevitable sugar rush.
Ready to engage your secret dessert stomach? Entry to the Brisbane Ice Cream Festival is totally free, but you must register to attend. Registrations open on Wednesday March 1 at 10:00 am, so set your alarm and get those clicking fingers ready!
