Dancing in the street – Brisbane Festival has put the call out for the city’s coolest cul-de-sacs

As the song goes, everybody needs good neighbours – especially when it comes to pulling together a street party! Brisbane Festival is officially back for 2020 and to kick things off, it’s on the hunt for the city’s coolest cul-de-sacs, courts, places and/or dead-ends to host one heck of a party. You can bet there will be dancing in the street come September as your quiet suburban pocket is transformed into a pop-up concert venue as part of the festival’s 2020 program.

A house in a cul-de-sac has long been part of the quintessential Australian dream and now, there’s one more benefit to that idyllic suburban life. We’re very excited to announce that Brisbane Festival 2020 is going ahead however, as you can imagine, things are set to look a little different this year. Instead of mass gatherings in the city’s centre the festival is moving to the ‘burbs and, if you happen to reside in a cul-de-sac, we have some very exciting news for you. You’re invited to nominate your street to host a once-in-a-lifetime pop-up event complete with live music and good times galore. You’ll be the unofficial king or queen of your ‘hood forever more.

Does your street have the goods? Jump over to the Brisbane Festival website to nominate your street by 10:00 am Wednesday July 8 and tell the organisers in 200 words or less why you would like to host a concert in your street, then let Brisbane Festival plan the rest. There is some small print though – your street must be in one of the 190 Brisbane City Council suburbs listed here and neighbours must comply with all current COVID-19 restrictions. Shortlisted applicants will be notified by Friday July 24, so dust off your camp chairs and eskies.

Brisbane Festival’s 2020 program will launch on Tuesday July 28 – keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for all of the juicy details!
