Remote reading – Brisbane City Council brings your local library to your lounge room
With all this new-found spare time, there has never been a better opportunity to dive into a new read. Your local library may be temporarily closed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start ticking books off your reading list! Whether you want to bury yourself into a new-release paperback, munch on some popcorn whilst watching your favourite rom-com or you’re keen to learn a new language, Brisbane City Council is bringing the library (including resources like books, movies and music) right to your living room – and better yet, it’s all for free!
From eBooks to eAudiobooks, foreign language lessons, music, films and eMagazines – there’s more than 150,000 free Brisbane City Council library resources in more than 60 languages available to access remotely. It’s super simple to get downloading – all you need is your membership number and an email address and you’ll be able to access everything through the Council’s online library catalogue (eLibCat). If you don’t have a library card, all you have to do is sign up online for a temporary digital library membership, which will give you access to all of the e-collections and resources until June 30 – yippee!
For the more vulnerable members of the community, Brisbane City Council is offering a free home library service to bring a selection of books, magazines, audiobooks, DVDs and CDs to registered home-service customers. Plus, if you still have any borrowed books, it has extended due dates for all returns to June 30 as well – giving you more time for a re-read! If you’re planning to return your borrowed books in the meantime, just drop them in the after-hours return chute outside your local library. Happy reading, folks!
