Free-wheeling flicks screen at the Brisbane Bicycle Film Festival

Fans of two-wheeled transportation can combine their love of bikes with that of film this weekend, thanks to the emergence of the Brisbane Bicycle Film Festival. Its first year in our city, the festival will showcase flicks that celebrate the free-wheeling community.

The International Bicycle Film Festival was created for the growing number of the world’s bicycle enthusiasts – to celebrate the sense of fun, freedom and adventure that can be attained from coasting on two wheels. As you’d expect, each film is themed around a bicycle, or a bicycle-loving individual.

The majority of these movies are independently made and come from the far reaches of the globe. They’re also short in length – most are less than 20 minutes, with the longest a mere hour. Whether you are an avid cyclist or part-time joy rider, the range of film genres and storylines should mean there will be something for you to enjoy.

To put your passion to practise there is also a group ride organised to take you to the Brisbane Bicycle Film Festival. Interested parties can convene at 4:15 pm at Musgrave Park and ride on from there. Other events held around Brisbane City on the date include the chance to scour a bicycle art collection, indulge in a mini tournament and pentathlon, as well as let your hair down at the after party.
